The ground rises twice a day
The rock has a tide of its own, separate from the ocean's. The Moon and Sun stretch the solid Earth, so the ground you are standing on lifts and settles by a few tens of centimetres twice a day. Nobody feels it, because everything nearby rises with you.
Who notices
In 1992 physicists at CERN found that the tide was stretching the 27 km ring of the LEP collider by about a millimetre and shifting its beam energy (Arnaudon et al.). GPS geodesy, LIGO and very-long-baseline radio astronomy correct for the earth tide as a matter of routine.
How it's calculated
For each of the Moon and Sun: lift = h₂ · (GM·r²/d³) / g · (3cos²ψ − 1) / 2, where d is the body's distance, ψ its angle from straight overhead, r Earth's radius and h₂ ≈ 0.61 the Love number that says how much the rock actually gives (IERS Conventions 2010, ch. 7). The Moon contributes up to about 9 in (22 cm) and the Sun about 4 in (10 cm). Positions come from low-precision ephemerides computed in your browser; this is the degree-2 equilibrium tide, good to about a centimetre, not a geodetic-grade model.
